No. Their "adult" 18 year old friends will escort them. Why would anyone want to go there on the weekends.

It's probably more to help the image problem. They don't want loitering teenagers scaring off shoppers who are actually there to spend money.

Last time I went to that mall was during the holiday shopping season in December. There were kids on bicycles circling the parking lot, wearing backpacks and watching shoppers return to their cars.
This was in the middle of the day and I felt extremely uncomfortable.
I am one of those people who would enjoy walking around the mall and doing some shopping. But, living in this area, I have determined there are better options.
I am not sure if having a curfew makes all that much of a difference. The place definitely needs more security.

Funny that indoor malls that shield you from the elements in climate controlled bliss are outdated, but outdoor malls that mimic the outdoor shopping experience of ancient times are modern.

That being said indoor malls have always been overrun by bored teenagers.

So true....I have good memories of spending a lot of time in the mall with my friends, mostly just trying to pick up girls. It was just something to do as a teen. But I am surprised it still happens nowadays, with the internet and social media, you no longer have to go out and socialize to meet other people. Back in my day, that was the only way. Mom, can you drop me off at the mall please?

Authenticity has become a key value for people, especially in commercial experiences and there's nothing authentic about the indoor shopping mall where you are literally surrounded by brands trying to sell you stuff. Plus they are UGLY buildings surrounded by huge parking lots. Who wants that?

It's the same reason why airbnb works. Sure hotels are very nice and predictable, but there's a much more authentic experience to be had staying in an airbnb.
