"Chas" is a more common nickname. I had to open the post to see what "Sac" was referring to but then I've never lived in Sacramento. Which means I can't contribute to the OP's original question either...
Very different with some similarities. Sacramento is inland, and you'd have to drive to SF (~80min, so not too bad) to be at the coast. In terms of demographics/population, Sacramento is much larger geographically and population-wise, and has much more ethnic diversity. Both places are hot, with Sac being dry heat and Chas humid, but you'll see 4 seasons in northern CA whereas over here it seems Winter starts in mid-January and Summer is from March-Dec. COL is relatively comparable, aside from gasoline obviously. Both are a short drive to elite universities (Sacramento near UC Davis, Berkeley, & Stanford; Charleston near Clemson). Pace of life in Charleston is slower (as is most of the South I assume) and relaxed. The biggest difference though...is that you'll see rain.

Summer keeps longer with every post. Must be confusing Charleston with Puerto Rico.
Any Charleston residents on here who have also lived in Sacramento? I'm curious how they compete?
Sacramento is larger, noisier, and incomes are likely better, but taxes are higher. Sacramento is inland, Charleston is coastal.
You're comparing a metro of over 2 million with one with less than 800,000, and two cities on opposite coasts. There will be size and culture differences. Plus the fact you'll always be 3 hours ahead.

I've never lived in Sac but have spent a lot of time there. There's really no similarity between Charleston and Sacramento, other than they are both hot in the summer.
There are only two seasons in Sac, wet and dry. Charleston actually has 4 seasons, and gets cold in the winter. Housing prices are higher in Sac overall, as is most of CA.
OP, are you trying to pick between the two cities?

I grew up in Nor Cal. Sacramento does get cold as well, low 20's w/o factoring wind chill during winter nights.

Thanks so much for your reply. I think my heart is set on Charleston but my head says I should visit a plan B too. Ideally I'd like to narrow down my 2 top choices and visit both before we move. I'm just having a hard time finding another place that appeals to be the way Charleston does. There where Sacramento came to mind. Although it's not close to the beach, from what I have read there are rivers and lakes so I could still enjoy water activities. Perhaps it has Charleston beat on hiking and proximity to hiking...
