There's a chance my family could be making the move to the area in the next 2 or so years. We have family on Daniel Island but I'd rather not live there.

1. Budget Max would probably be 600K
2. House/Condo/Townhome? House, we have a dog and baby
3. Employment Status(commute/work from home) Work from home for one of us, the other would be determined
4. Children(public school vs. private) Depends, I'd love feedback on schools in the area
5. Suburban, Coastal or Urban lifestyle preference or a mix of them together (or even Rural) A mix, just not rural
6. Amenities preferred or must-haves Dog friendly, child friendly, runner friendly
7. Preferable demographics of desired neighborhood We're liberal New Englanders so a more liberal area would be preferred. We do not and will not attend Church which I know can make us outliers in the area too

We've been to Charleston many times - love the city. We have friends in Mt. Pleasant as well as the family on DI. I'd be interested in areas of Mt. Pleasant and if the public schools are okay there? If we stay in MA, we'd definitely go with public schools but not sure if we move. This is all somewhat abstract right now.

Suggestions for areas to consider?

Yep, Mt. Pleasant fits the bill. Public schools are ranked highly.

What everyone has said. North Mount-P would fit the bill. Still not as liberal as the North East (or New England) but it is as close as you will get.

Seems to me... Daniel Island dodged a bullet.

No, we have like 10 churches and a gun shop. It's a misconception that it's a liberal refugee camp.

I'm fine with churches around, I obviously know that there are a lot. I'd just like some similar minded people, because I know it will be a change coming from MA if we do move.

I didn't mean to offend.

Well we'd still be there a lot due to family so I guess I'm not saving DI completely from us awful New England liberals. Sorry!

We already stay there a few time a year too. It just feels a little isolated to me but that may just be perspective.

Don't let the comments get to you but just be aware that SC is a conservative state though Charleston itself is one of the most liberal spots within that state. I wouldn't make too much of it either way though... Politics is not "in-your-face" so much around here, unless you want to make it that way. The same goes for religion. You won't be ostracized because you don't go to church.

Mt Pleasant does sound like the best option for you though I would also take a look at some of James Island on the other side of Charleston.
