I'm taking the family to Kiawah and we'll mostly hit up the beach and pool (covid depending). But I'd also like to explore some by bike and paddling. Our kids are pretty young so can't bike that far. Is it very safe to bike on the roads and definitely worth taking all of the bikes?

Also what areas would you recommend for stand up paddling or kayaking?

Any other adventures or activities you would recommend?

Thanks in advance.

Biking is safe on Kiawah and you can rent bikes if carting them down there is a hassle. Are you in the area and just going for a day or are you staying at Kiawah for a period of time? The usual trip is paddling down the Kiawah River to Captain Sams Inlet, just make sure to time it with the tides so you're not paddling against the current. It's a prime dolphin watching area. They strand feed along there on a regular basis at least in the fall. I think you can launch at Mingo Point for a reasonable fee and you can probably rent kayaks/paddle boards there as well if you need them.

Great, thanks. We'll be there for 5 days.

Are there a lot of bike only paths (that you can't explore by car) or is most of the biking done on roads?

There are plenty of bike paths and you can also bike on the beach at low tide.
