I am looking to relocate from Salt Lake City, Utah to the east coast. I want warmer weather and I have narrowed my search to North or South Carolina but I am having trouble narrowing down the cities. I am looking for a coastal community with year round residents, not just seasonal residents. I have 2 kids, elementary and high school so community and schools are very important. I would love some recommendations of cities, areas, towns etc.

I will be taking a trip this spring and would love to visit several areas and find the right one for my family. I have a good career and work from home, however, I always want to stay near a solid job market just in case things change.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

For schools and jobs you are going to want to stay near the larger cities. For SC that would mean Charleston and maybe Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head. In NC you might look at the Wilmington area. Of all of those, I think Charleston would offer the most options but others might fit your situation better. Within the Charleston area, the better actual beachfront communities for what you're looking for would be Sullivan's Island and Isle Of Palms. They're very pricey though as are all of the actual beachfront communities so the budget question is important for us to give useful feedback.

Thanks! My house budget is under 500k 3-4 bd. A good community is the most important factor, somewhere safe and lots of activities for kids. Mine are 9 and 13. Right now we live in a master planned community, Daybreak in Ut, and we love everything it offers. I work remotely so job marketing isn't a huge factor but you never know what the future holds so I would still like to be near a solid job market. Hope that helps, let me know if I can provide more information.
