Reasonable Places to stay in or near Charleston
We are stationed at Shaw.
First time in SC, so I would love to take a weekend trip to Charleston before kids start school.
But goodness all rooms look to be around 150-200 a night.
Any recommendations would be appreciated.
Thanks
Lorrie

I'd definitely try for lodging at either the AF base or the Naval Weapons Station. Can't beat it for the price. Otherwise, if you don't stay on the peninsula, you may be able to find something for less than $150.

Look at the Sleep Inn in Mt. Pleasant and on Savannah Highway (17S.)
Also check out the Sheraton by the airport.
There are a few options under $100...check Expedia. If you search with a site like Expedia, also be sure to check the individual hotel web site before booking. They can sometimes list lower prices (especially if they show military rates). Then...before booking (again)...call the hotel and ask for their best rate. After doing those three things you can feel good that you got the best price possible.
The smartest move is to ALWAYS ask for a military rate or a business rate...whichever is cheapest.
