Naah, I love the older stangs also. I grew up in a Mustang family. Worked on my brother fox bodies for a while. I am waiting to see what the 2011 relaunched 5.0 will be like.
There is something wonderful about a Ford 4 valve running thru long tubes and side exhaust that even from the other side of the track makes me smile. The real track dawgs I know say the '05 up chassis is far superior than mine for any racing type endeavor. I plan to go to something less powerful, and less expensive for the future. I have to be able to bend it a bit, and not have tears come to my eyes

I have visited the website, it makes me smile to see a track with no snow on it! I have been fortunate with instructors I've had. Most have been older than I, and most have had extensive racing in thier background. Not to get all "new age" on you or anything, but the things they taught me, and the things I've learned out there all by myself about driving, have carried over into my daily life, bringing noticable improvements.
I savor the post track time, where the guys gather around one of the trailers and bench race or maybe just talk about life. It has a very re-energizing effect for me.
Like the group you describe, I've found most drivers are very "real" There is something about a man (or woman)stretching his limits that lends itself to mutual respect.
Yes we did, it ended up taller than it was long when the Toyota Celica I was beating up the hill slammed into the back of me after I center punched a Telephone pole.....
We both hit the same icy patch and neither one of us could stear out of it.......
She spun sideways and slid into the rear end of my car at about sixty.....
My seat had broken loose completely and I ended up in the back seat......
OTC, can't remember if I asked you this and my internet search didn't turn anything up, but any muscle car shops around Charleston where you can get work done?
If you are in the area, check out European Road and Racing on Rivers near 526. Most people have no idea this shop or these cars exist in Charleston. VIR is about 5 hours north and Road Atlanta is about the same distance west. Roebling Road is two hours south.
ERR is a nice place. I kinda got a bad taste for them a few years ago ( around 04) when one of thier guys said I should trade in my "japanese heap" for a BMW. He was refering to my EVO at the time. I do know a few folks who swear by them and they know cars so I take thier word to heart.
