The store will also feature an expanded sushi area and chef's bistro where food will be served. The remodeled building will also include both hot and cold bars, he said.

It will offer a separate cheese bar featuring a wide variety of specialty cheeses. The store's meat and seafood sections are also being expanded.
Sounds like they are modeling their new stores after Wegman's. Which isn't a bad thing. The only thing they didn't mention was having a Starbucks inside. The store in Barboursville has one and it is a nice touch.

Reason: Title should read as "upgrades" obviously. iPhone auto correct strikes again

Sounds like they are trying to make it similar to the one they have at Suncrest in Morgantown. If so, it should be a very nice store.

Haven't been there, but heard it is quite large. Im all for Kroger maintaining it's hold in WV as the primary grocery retailer. Anything to keep Wal-Mart from having a monopoly. Pluse Kroger is good about using local produce when available.
It will no doubt be top quality when complete. I recently spent sometime in Ohio and went in a few of there Kroger stores and feel that it is safe to say that some of the stores across WV are lacking in some regards. The ones in the Charleston/Huntington area are well kept and nice for the most part though!
I lived in VA and Kroger built/opened some "super Kroger" stores there. The one in Bonsack near Roanoke was finished shortly before we left town. It was HUGE - almost as big as a Walmart - had sit-down-and-eat deli, a wine section as large as a small grocery store, can't remember whether they had a Starbucks, but they did have a coffee bar. Maybe that's what they're going to do with the one at Ashton. Anyway, here in Raleigh, the Krogers are like the old WV stores, and they pretty much suck. We do our shopping at one of the few, rare, Super Food Lion stores, which is nearby and relatively inexpensive. There's a brand new Harris Teeter in our "hood", and it DOES have a Stabucks inside, but the prices are totally outrageous.
Kroger just purchased Harris Teeter, which is slightly more upscale. Wegmans blows both away in terms of both price and selection. Wegmans appears to be too selective in choosing their market, so if Kroger can adopt some of the Harris Teeter approaches when it comes to fresh meats and cheeses, it'll at least be better.
Decided to include this in this thread. The one in Scott Depot did not receive the exterior renovation like the one at Ashton Place. The inside does look very sharp though! Last I heard on the Kroger at Ashton Place, it was almost completely remodeled.
In other news, I see that Piggly Wiggly is growing its WV brand. 4 locations in WV right now, and wanting to expand. Milton was the first, followed by Hamlin, Hico, and Clay. This might be a chance for atleast the Metro Valley to get some new stores to contend with Kroger. IMO I would rather see Foodland or Foodfair straighten up its stores and become more relevant.
