As I stated in another thread I am considering relocating to the Charlotte area in the spring time from South Jersey (Philly suburbs). I'm a huge sports fan. All Philly teams of course. How is pro sports treated by the locals? I'm use to very passionate fans here in Jersey and Philly. Now I'm not comparing, I'm just curious to know how well the local teams are supported win or lose.
Lot of passion here for Nascar (understatement), and there are a lot of ardent Panthers fans. Bobcats fans tend to be very fairweather, which is surprising since this is ACC country. But nobody would confuse Charlotte sports fans with Boston, New York or Philly fans.
In Charlotte sports jerseys are not considered appropriate attire for anything unless you're in the process of playing a team sport. Please adjust accordingly. I don't want to see you at my favorite restaurant wearing a jersey... even on a Wed. night. I don't want to see it at the museum, the mall, or even the movie theater. That goes double for any philly jerseys.
but seriously, we love our teams. Many here feel stronger ties to our alma mater than pro teams though...
There is no "passion" for pro sports here. Only college hoops...In august, when you're gearing up for college and pro football, the local paper runs a 4 page spread on ACC basketball. They may "love" the Panthers here, but they're not "in love" with them. The sports page in the Observer is garbage too...luckily, you can get other sports pages online now...seems to me Charlotte is a minor league sports town at best...
The Pro sport love isn't as strong here as it is in other places. I think that's because there are many transplants from other areas (who are still in love their "home" team) plus the fact that our franchises are relatively young. I know many natives who love the Panthers but are in love with another NFL team. Why? Because that's who their relatives routed for before NC got a pro team.

I meen no disrespect if you are just joking but..... If I'm putting a lot of money into relocating into a new home in a new state to better my family and raise an 8 yr old little girl, I'll wear my PHILLY jersey's where I want, when I want, how I want. If I work hard for my money and spend it on jersey's and anything else PHILLY sports related, I'm going to show it off. So my southern "friend" the only thing I'm adjusting to is a cheaper way of living in a new geographical location. That's all I need to "adjust to accordingly". Be on a look out for some Philly sports teams flags in the near future.
As another poster mentioned above, you can't mistake Charlotte for Boston or Philly in terms of love for their teams. However, I would say that Charlotte does have a decent sports following. Panthers are always a great draw on game day. Plenty of people wear their jerseys during the season. The Bobcats are finally turning the corner as they made the playoffs this past year and Jordan is now the team owner. Also, the Carolina Hurricanes' AHL affiliate will now be located here starting next season. Baseball probably lags the most though, in large part to the stadium is not even in Charlotte. And of course you have Nascar. I can't say I'm a fan, but appreciate what it does for the local economy. Races are fun to experience at least once if you haven't been. One thing we don't have though is a court house and jail under BofA Stadium like they do (or did) for the Eagles! Just kidding I'm sure you will have no problem relating to sports fans here. There are definitely plenty of Philly transplants too.

Yeah, I'm not expecting the fans to be as passionate as fans in the North East. But I do like to interact with fans that are passionate, whether they are a fellow Philly fan or not. What AHL team will be in Charlotte next year? I'm aware of the Charlotte Checkers. Are they moving up or moving out? Where will the AHL team play? It's good for me though that there are plenty of Philly transplants. Especially during football season. But hey, on a side note, I've always been a Duke fan for college basketball. So I'm going to love that. But I'm also a Miami Hurricanes fan in football. Don't ask lol. So I'm sure I'll be in ACC heaven lol
