From what i hear, Charlotte feels like a small NY. It has basically everything NY has, without the rats and bed bugs of course.
No offense, but that is actually very untrue. Charlotte is nothing at all like NYC. I like Charlotte for what it offers families, but there's no comparison.

I dont think he meant NYC, I think he meant like NYC suburbs.
LiveStrong, I actually grew up in Charlotte, and for a long time it was not a great "singles" town. However that has changed drastically in the past few years. Many of my clients are 20s/single and rate Charlotte's nightlife and ability to meet other singles very high compared with other cities, not to mention its easier to get around than cities like Atlanta. Not only is there the nightlife, but we have the National Whitewater Center, great for rafting, biking, hiking, etc., and Crowders Mtn in Gastonia, 30 minutes away, perfect for a day hike. There are three beautiful lakes for watersports. The mild climate has been perfect for weekend festivals, this weekend alone there is an arts festival, wine festival, Oktoberfest beer festival, film festival, and several 10K road races within 5 miles of each other. I have to say, we have it pretty good here in Charlotte, and would encourage you to strongly consider relocating here!
I know a lot of times, people on city-data make Charlotte seem like it's the worst place on earth, but I've seen Charlotte change temendously in the last five years! I know that it's not on Atlanta's level yet, but it has made a lot of progress! I like your assessment of what goes on in Charlotte, especially speaking from someone who grew up in Charlotte! I visit Charlotte often, and I see those same things myself! Charlotte isn't there yet, but it is definately improving!

I've applied to lots of jobs down there and also sent my info to companies that aren't necessarily hiring. No luck so far, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I'm aware companies are more wary of even considering out of state hires, but I've made it clear that it wouldn't be a problem to move. I'm ready to get out of MD. Prices are high and the crime and overall vibe just sucks. I'd like to be in a place where people actually hold the door for you if they know you're directly behind them.
I love NC! we moved here from Florida! We love the seasons!!!!
