Thinking of moving to the charlotte area ( or maybe even asheville).is there a particular part of town or a suburb that is the gay area, specifically lesbian friendly? can you give some specifics? street names? subdivisions? businesses?
thanks!

Hey now, I have personally given you GREEN dots! I really don't think it should. Just surprised and why they would choose to go to a place where there are still red necks living that disagree to this life style. Do you agree with it? I'll take a red dot to say I don't. If saying how I feel gets me one. Cool. Tired of people saying what is "politically correct" instead of how they feel about the subject. If people would say how they feel there might be less violence about the subject (Violence comes into play when someone feels as if their way of expressing how they feel hasn't come across.)

Just my $.02

Well what a warm welcome you're getting here.
Maybe you should come to Raleigh/Durham instead. We'll welcome you with open arms!

lolobooks I think Charlotte is up for it. My hairdresser is gay I could ask him for all the hotspots if you would like. He is actually one of the nicest people I know.

Can't please them all. Not into peer pressure.... Funny how they stick together, and none of the heterosexual do "publically". I have got a 50%-50% on the dots. To those who gave a green dot, thanks for the support

Oh dear, Lolobooks.

In short, don't move to Charlotte. Charlotte does not have much gay life (which is befitting its strong Southern Baptist heritage) and you would be bored to pieces.

Believe it or not, the lesbian capital of NC is ... Durham, NC! The homes are still reasonably priced, and it is not too uncommon to see two women together with their children. There has long been a lesbian community, mostly centered around Duke University and also Ninth St. I would highly recommend that you consider moving to NC.

Also, feel free to PM me any questions you may have about the "family" communities in NC, especially in the Triangle.

Best of luck!

Agreed, followed by Chapel Hill/Carrboro.
Raleigh's good too, but tends to attract more of the men than the "womyn", if you know what I mean.

You mentioned Asheville, and it does have a tremendous artsy community that embraces people of all types. There is a big gay population there. Asheville is beautiful, however it is in the middle of nowhere. So, while there is heaps to do in Asheville--there is nothing to do once you leave it.

I would say that Charlotte, in general, is not where you want to be if you're looking for a thriving gay population. Bottom line is that it's a fairly religious (first question you may get asked by your neighbors is: what church do you belong to?) and for the most part conservative.

I'm a born and bred NYC'er, so I prob have an opinion that is stronger than most on embracing a wide variety of people. I visited Durham again last week, and it is cool with an interesting mix of people. I dunno, I guess I don't see NC in general as the best place to be if you're gay.

How about an area like Charlottesville, VA? Pretty artsy, lots to do and embracing of folks. You can kind of spread out a bit more without having to be stuck in an limited enclave.

Just a thought.
