I agree with the above post and also Dunhill or Westin uptown. Gives you a good feel of the uptown area and nightlife, yet you can hit the interstate to check out other areas of the Metro.

There are very few hotel areas I would not feel safe in. It really depends on where in Charlotte you will be looking (remember, from top to bottom, Charlotte is around 20 miles long, and nearly as wide.)

All uptown hotels are lovely and safe. My husband and I stayed Friday night at the Hilton Executive Park (next to the Marriott recommended above) because the next morning we needed to be in the Southpark area, and it was a very nice hotel, safe and quiet. (Anything in Southpark is great, but availability was low on short notice when we were looking.)

I would recommend staying away from anything at the I-85/Woodlawn/Billy Graham interchange (despite the fact that there's a Four Points Sheraton near there.) The area around I-77/Arrowood is also seeing a bit more decline in recent years.

Whats the name of that really nice Hotel in Ballantyne?
The one with the Golf Course. Ive heard one of the best, if not the best in Charlotte, but it is about 15 mins from Uptown.

I really liked the Staybridge Suites in Ballantyne. Very nice, they have a wine and cheese bar on weeknights, complimentary laundry, 2 bedroom suites, etc...

Ballantyne is simply put an excellent area, and one of the best in Charlotte.

I agree with staying uptown...or even better, The Ballantyne Resort. That's where I'd go.
