What can anyone tell me about the Olde Providence north area? Good place to live, how would describe the neighborhood, safe, proximity to restaurants, shopping and entertainment, anything walkable, what are the public schools like in this area?

Any comments or discussion would be appreciated.

If you're speaking of the Olde Providence area near Rea, Providence, Colony then I can give a biased opinion as we've lived here for 11 years or so and in south Charlotte for 18. It's an excellent are IMO for families, proximity to many activities and is as safe as anywhere anywhere. We've been at OP elementary for 11 yrs now and have no major complaints, the middle school all have drawbacks but thats M.S. and all the HS's in the area are amongst the best in CMS. As far as walkability well there is no such thing in Chlt. Good luck w/ wherever you end up.

We live in the OP area and love it. There's a shopping center at the corner of Rea and Colony with a Harris Teeter that's always empty as well as an excellent sushi place (Mai), decent Chinese, Mexican and a great neighborhood bar/pub called The Lodge. The Arboretum is very close too. Schools are excellent. We are very happy with OP elementary, have enjoyed Carmel Middle and are very excited about Myers Park High School. There's a swim/tennis club within the OP neighborhood but you don't have to be a resident to join (and don't have to join if you're a resident). Great swim and dive teams for kids, great tennis for all skill levels. There are a couple of sketch areas nearby but overall, it's a great place to live and raise a family.

I second {or third} the above comments. Great neighborhood, great location, great schools, etc.

But I am not sure we are talking about the same neighborhood. I have never heard of OP NORTH.

I've seen the area that the neighborhood is in designated on some maps as OP North and South. I believe almost all of the neighborhood that is actually called OP is in OP North. The rest is the south side of Rea (Candlewyck, Chadwick, etc.).

Well I learned something new, thanks Chuckles. I have lived in OP for 9 years and have never heard that.
