Has anyone built or bought a True Home? We are thinking of building with them and want to learn all we can. They seem to be everywhere - claim they are now the biggest builder in Charlotte. Other than cosmetics, does anyone know if the difference between their Elements and Traditions collections impacts the quality and actual structure of the houses?

We recently closed a home with True Homes. Basically the difference is price, size & location of home with Traditions being the better of the 2. I was told Traditions materials were a higher grade. This is the 2nd time I have built a home in my life time and if I had to rate them on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being great I would give them a 7.

I thought the final quality of the home was slight lower than their models so if you choose to build look at some of the almost complete homes as a comparison. Grade 6

I felt the showroom was a game. We had to beg for prices of the options to have an idea on what options we would like to choose to be prepared. I am not the type of person to choose an appliance based on looks I like to do my homework. They make it very clear no changes after your visit to the showroom or pay dearly which I can understand because they order materials for the home right after your visit. Grade 7

We had a fantastic builder who allowed us to visit the home as much as we liked as it was being constructed. It just happens that the sub contractors that he had were ok at best and he always seemed to have to go behind them and redo things. I am not sure if this is normal. Builder grade 9

Their contracts are very one sided and I am being told that its normal for a builder but I would not sign anything under those conditions again. For example they have a bunch of garbage that they can sue if you don't close when they say the home is complete but it took them an extra 2 months to complete the home based on what they said in the beginning.

Overall I might would purchase from them again but after researching other builders closely and certainly under different contract conditions.

Wow, that's unreal. An extra 2 months to build? I remember back in 2005 during the building bubble, I purchased a Ryan home and they finished it in just under 3 months and that was amazing to me. I remember thinking to myself "TAKE YOUR TIME", but it seemed as is they have so many people and it was so routine to them to do it quickly. The finished product, as it turned out for me was a poorly constructed home.

All depends on what your needs and price point, but I don't think I would going out on a limb too far in saying they are one the poorer builders around.

Not that they are really doing anything wrong, just 3 words come to mind... "minimum code compliant"
