The Foxhole also takes used batteries, frying oil, and most toxic household items. It would be a good time to take these things down there as well, if you aren't in the area often.
+1 on the kitty litter. This is what the garbage company told us to do when we were moving from Illinois.
You could also Freecycle the partial cans. You'd be surprised. We had someone come and pick it all up.
