How funny you should mention it. I just got back from my daughter's school and was speaking with a classroom assistant (sounds like a NY accent) and she mentioned that her family has never been to Disneyworld because her husband can never get time off, because his family owns a restaurant. When I asked which one she said Fontanellas!
She mentioned that they have a buffet at lunch on weekdays, cheap too she said.

Very good food at Fontanella's! When I'm in that area, I definitely prefer to give them my business over Carrabba's, which is right across the parking lot. Nothing beats good "mom and pop" Italian food

I'll third the opinion. Been there a couple times in my short while here. Italian food is just as good as most places in NY.

The brothers are from Sicily. Jack ran Carlo's Italian on N. Tryon for years, but it closed a few years ago. Too bad - I thought it was far better (and cheaper) than Fontenella's. As long as I can remember, Carlo's closed down every year the week of July 4th so the family could return to the Old Country.

One family in Charlotte has been translating its family recipes into successful businesses since 1974. Giacomo, Giuseppe, and Francesco -- also known as Jack, Joe and Frank -- Brucia opened the first, and still operating, Carlo's Italian Restaurant & Pizza on North Tryon Street in that year. Since 1974, the Brucia family has had five Carlo's locations, including the popular Park Road spot, but subsequently sold all those restaurants.

Default Thumbs up!

I tried Fontanella's while in the area today and the food was fantastic. A Yahoo! review by a guy from Jersey made me want to try it and I was not disappointed. They have hot fresh rolls and my entree was excellent.
