I've had it with paying a fortune for generic store bought lower grade maple syrup and I refuse to ever use "Log Cabin" (or similar corn syrup) again.

Where do you get your higher quality maple syrup? Is it available locally sourced (possibly making it cheaper)?

Trader Joes? I agree, I can't even stomach the thought of brown goop after eating the real deal for years.

The problem with getting locally produced syrup is that the sugar maple tree doesn't range into NC.

I get mine at Costco as they seem to have the best price on it and the quality is superb. In my opinion the best stuff comes from Quebec. The grocery store has it but it is $$$.

Sometimes we find it on sale at Target. Here is a secret, Grade B pure maple syrup isn't necessarily "worse" than Grade A. It is darker. Some might actually prefer Grade B over Grade A. It is cheaper.

We only use pure 100% maple syrup. If we go out for a pancake breakfast we bring our own... and we don't share!

I prefer B because it has more maple flavor.

They (sugar maples) do, but only in the mountains, and the trees require a certain amount of winter cold to raise sugar levels and reduce tannins, and even in our mountains there isn't quite enough cold. So any syrup from those trees would be bitter (from tannins). Thus, you're pretty much stuck with New England, Upstate NY and Canadian syrup.
