So many Long Islanders are leaving and relocating to NC. I was recently in Waxhaw looking at a home..both neighbors of this particular house were transplants from LI.
Has anyone had this experience? What part of NC did you move to? Any recommendations, helpful info, etc?
My family moved from LI to Waxhaw (more like Wesley Chapel) five years ago. My advice is to just move to Charlotte and live in the suburbs within the city. At first the huge house and large space for a low price seem very appealing but the town gets boring fast. I don't know if you are used to a very small town atmosphere, but that is what you will find there. Charlotte on the other hand is a great place to live that is very safe (in the southern parts) and has many things to do. Waxhaw just has no character to it.
You should post this on the Charlotte forum. As far as I know we only have one guy here who lives in Charlotte (MikeyKid). I live outside Raleigh, and despite the rumor that every one and their brother is moving here, I have not one neighbor who is a recent transplant from LI. Do have a few who moved here 15+ years ago.
Twingles - How long have you been in NC? I have several friends who have relocated to the Charlotte burbs...one neighbor who just moved to Cary. All seem to love it and have found many other LI transplants.
I have a close friend who is a LI realtor...many more people trying to leave Long Island; taxes, cost of living, etc. Not that many trying to move back considering the abundance of homes that sit on the market for a very long time!
Can I say I really lived there?-No. Weekend warrior?-Yes.
Ive done extensive research on Charlotte, The triangle area and even parts of South Carolina a few years ago. Was thinking about relocating but decided not to. I will be out of the northeast cold in about 20 years tho.
Anyways Charlotte's crime was off the charts, not sure if its still the same or not?
As I always say...if you cant live the way you want to then don't be afraid to move elsewhere. The good US of A is a big area.
