You're not going to waltz into some HR person's office and get a job without facing some stiff competition. The competition could be dozens of people, or it could be hundreds. You'd better bring your A-game if you plan to gain employment.

Bottom line is this isn't some promised land and may or may not be better than where you're from, but don't believe all of the hype. While some may be true, plenty is inaccurate at best, entirely fabricated at worst.
I asked a specific question... not trying to argue at all.

These list compare, rate, etc... but I've never read an article that said all you have to do is show up to get a great job.

I think this is part of the problem with people who read these list thinking a photo and a city with a number next to it means it's heaven on earth. All they are doing is throwing a list together based on a few comparisons and they usually change every few months.

Those who do put stock in these list tend to be people who are down on their luck or desperate for a "new life"

A lot of people who want a better quality of life aren't looking at places where a 1 BR is $1,800.

I moved to Brooklyn right before the crash... sure there are a ton of jobs but there are 2 tons of people applying and the rent, gas, taxes, etc are too much.

It's a catch 22 IMO. Tons of free stuff in NYC but it's very hard to survive without a great job. In Charlotte you may not get ahead but at least you can keep your head above water with a dead end job.

These lists may not say you just have to show up to get a job, but a lot of people sure seem to get that idea from somewhere. It sure ain't coming from here.
