My husband and I are really debating relocating to Charlotte. As you all know Long Island is getting way to expensive. We are a young family under 30 with two small children. One in elementary school and one who will be starting preschool. Do you feel you made the right choice moving to Charlotte? if you have any children how did they adjust? Any pointers or tips..Please feel free. We are open to any and all suggestions.

I think it's important to realize that you're not alone here. You'll be among many people that moved from LI to NC. Charlotte ia a big hodgepodge of many different people from all over. I moved here from LI 20 years ago and it was much different back then. Charlotte is ever growing and just an out and out joy to be in. When I travel to LI I shake my head at most things like the traffic, expense, crowds and the only thing I miss is the food , but you adjust you know.

My kids are about to start school in a year, but I think from what I gather the schools may not be as "good" as LI schools, but we do OK. I would guess you'd research a good area to make sure you're in the right district for the better schools.

Other than that, there's plenty to do here and I think you'll love it.

LOng Islanders adapt and will love Charlotte. Especially South Shore.

New Yorkers (the true New Yorker IMO would hate it)

I am not from LI, but moved from Bergen County NJ in January. I have a wife, 4 yr old daughter, and another on the way. I had been thinking about relocating to Charlotte since 2005 due to the cost of housing and taxes. Having lived in NJ my whole life, I was concerned about how my family and I would adjust to this new environment and southern culture. I finally made the move this past January and we purchased a home in April. Generally speaking, I have found the people here to be much more friendlier. I do not have NYC in by backyard, but I have access to good food, good schools, convenient shopping, and much more. I live in a home I love and would not have been able to afford in NJ. Because of the lower cost of living I am able to spend more money on recreation. I personally was far too concerned about adjusting to this new environment. I would have moved here much sooner had I known how much better the quality of life would be for me and my family. The only reason I am glad I waited is due to the low housing prices and mortgage rates.
