I am considering a move out of state, while maintaining my job here in CLT. My work schedule allows for blocks of time working here and then blocks of time off. Therefore, I am looking for some creative ideas and resources for inexpensive housing. I want to spend as little as possible (no trailer, camper, or slum type housing). I'm looking for ideas outside of the traditional apt. such as crash pads, house sitting, etc. If you have some ideas, would you also provide links or contact information? My budget would be about $300/month. I work uptown.

Hot bunk with another like you.
Finding them is the next problem.

Perhaps a little 'less' creative than that...

In your price range?

rent a room in someones home.
share a bathroom with them or another roomer, share the kitchen and living room with everyone.
put your own lock on your room door... how much do these cost now?

I've read that flight attendants and pilots often keep apartments in multiple cities with their peers. Maybe put an ad in various papers, cl, bp, even C-D?

How long? Do you have friends that have a "space" (extra bedroom, basement, apartment, etc)that you can "rent"? I ask this because my DH had to do the same for about a year but in reverse. He worked in DC and lived here. He stayed a friends when needed and paid him some money, bought some groceries and it worked out.
Also, what about corporate housing? Or is anyone else in your company doing something similar?

Depending on how long you will be in CLT, maybe try to work out a deal with a hotel?

Are you looking for places in/around Charlotte or where you will be working? I have an app on my phone called Airbnb. It shows places all around from rooms to rent to houses. Also there is a sight I heard about called 'couch crashers' where people allow you to sleep on the couch or something for a night or so for like $10 bucks. I have not checked that out, just heard about it. If you need a place in Charlotte, DM me. I have an idea.
