I just moved to Charlotte this past weekend and stumbled upon an internet study that found that Charlotte is in the top 10 most workaholic cities in the nation. Personally, I prefer to work no more than 40-45 hrs per week max, as I like to have personal time to pursue other interests, etc. Here is the internet study:
But just how accurate do you think this is? I'm a bit surprised, honestly. Do you think it's maybe because of the investment bankers and stuff? Does this mean that if I find a job around here, I'm going to have to work insane amounts of overtime? Please don't tell me that.
I thought DC, NYC, Boston or LA would be the most workaholic cities....not Charlotte, NC!
This was before the crash, but when my husband interviewed for B of A, the employees were bragging that they work more than 60 hours a week. He turned down the job. Perhaps it's just the banks as we have not had any other experiences like that.
This is SO dependent on your particular job. A couple years ago, working for BofA, I typically worked 50 hours a week. Currently, still at BofA, the group I'm in has nearly no overtime, so I'm usually at 40 hours a week. It's really hard to generalize about a whole city on something like this.

Is it safe to say that BofA is a workaholic company then? Certain departments?
I do about 47-50 hours per week working 4 nights per week (usually 12 hour shifts, but I sometimes go over that). The fact that I get a 3-day weekend EVERY week kinda makes up for it though. It really doesn't seem as though I work THAT much.
