Governor called for a meeting Monday between all sides. There may have been a meeting today also. Monday's court hearing moved to Aug 1.

‘The Charlotte way’ fails

Last week’s drama was set in motion more than a year ago.

In early 2012, an executive with US Airways, the airport’s largest tenant, had a tense meeting with then-City Manager Curt Walton over how much say the airline would have over Orr’s eventual successor.

Planning consultant Michael Gallis, who has worked with Orr, heard about the tensions and raised concerns with Stan Campbell, a former member of the City Council and Airport Advisory Committee. At the same time, developer Johnny Harris was warning of the politicization of the airport by city leaders he saw as “paralyzed” over a dispute about building a streetcar.US Airways forwarded a draft of possible authority legislation to Campbell. In December, Campbell approached Sen. Bob Rucho, a Matthews Republican.
Like your incorrect statement about Rent-A-Cops this proves it's not hearsay. I personally don't have any problem with the state getting involved to protect the jobs provided by the 3rd largest employer in the city. Fortunately both Foxx & Walton are gone and I say good riddance.
Wrong again Frew, these are the same people worried about losing control, especially developers like J Harris and the ongoing $200 million dollars of construction at the airport that Orr hands-out to his BFFs..thats a lot of money up for grabs. Walton got involved once Orr's magical accouting numbers didn't add up...maybe human error but unacceptable and time for ole Jerr to move on.

http://www.charlotteobserver.com/201...n-airport.html

Don't get me wrong, Orr's been great but let's face it, he's 72 years old and the clock is ticking, at least upgrade oversight with a valid succession plan. This is typically how it's done in corporate america.

Wrong about what rent-a-cops? Please provide any information about the difference in pay for the rent-a-cops and what agency provided them versus the city cops.

That state is going to ruin those jobs if not careful, it wasn't a fiasco until the airport authority proponents created one in their make-believe world of "we" must control. Again, they made a problem out of NO problem. Working with city leaders to create an authority would've been much easier than trying to blind side them....that's the good ole boy network gone wrong....it's not that easy any more as they are quickly finding out.

"Situation is Fluid". LOL This tells me that now that they have stopped churning the water the s--- has floated to the surface. It's my guess the city has gotten "creative" with those bonds and now it's come back to bit them. The city has borrowed something like $900M against the airport.

WSOC identified the secret Pat McCrory meeting in Raleigh 3 days ago. At least the Observer has finally gotten around to figuring it out. It was on the WSOC 6pm news though nobody there would say what it was about. Apparently some on the city council didn't know about it and were quite livid when they found out. (clearly on top of things like usual. )

From the Herald Online about the police force. Ron Carlee is the new Charlotte city manager.

Carlee is also considering whether Charlotte Douglas International Airport should go back to managing its own police force, only six months after Charlotte-Mecklenburg police took over with a mandate to improve security.
...
Carlee is examining costs for policing the airport. He has said it might not be necessary for CMPD to oversee security anymore and that the city should consider how best to provide for airport security. That could include going back to an airport-managed police force or using private security guards.
Rent-A-Cops? Better call the power brokers. LOL

More seriously, it's amazing this story, and it's just one example of unnecessary city meddling in airport operations driven by politics. 6 months ago, city absolutely claimed Monroe/CMPD needed to run airport security. Now 6 months later, Foxx/Walton gone well... maybe that wasn't such a good idea after all.

No wonder US Airways is tired of incompetent city meddling. No business can operate under this model.

Incompetence is judging incompetence from your side of the keyboard. But, if you must bring competence in to it, perhaps US Air should be more careful in not letting teenagers fall out of their wheel wells and the airport police should guard the perimeter better.

The CMPD grab is more than likely as much to do about Tisdale and appeasement there than anything else.

A writer for the Observer has created his own very important infographic: (not an Observer piece):https://twitter.com/ESPortillo/statu...995520/photo/1

And here's a bill for the bill published today: http://content.news14.com/pdf/clt_airport_bill_new.pdf

Here's the newest update. Talks broke down in Raleigh and a new bill has been introduced to let the airport remain a Charlotte city asset but be ran by a 13 member board. It repeals the previous bill.

City still doesn't like it and the GA is accusing the city of not cooperating. News-Talk 1110 WBT | Local News: City-opposed airport bill passes NC House
