An intermodal rail yard at Charlotte's airport that will be operated by Norfolk Southern is seen as a potential economic boon as officials hope for increased cargo at East Coast ports from a widened Panama Canal. But estimates on economic impact vary widely.
When I read the article on Sunday I found it interesting that the intermodal is not "for" the airport. Cargo doesn't go from air to rail there, or vica versa. The yard simply occupies a space that otherwise would go unused. Smart land use decision!
I am always fascinated with rail or ports, I need to ride out on West Blvd and see if I can grasp my bearing on how this would work.
My first thought from Google Satellite that it would be located in middle of the front side of the runways close to Old Dowd rd especisally since the tracks are nearby.
Satellite has clearing there but the article was referencing the trucks would use West Blvd.
