I went to Big Al's the other day and found they have Pierogies on the menu. They are not homemade but were still plenty good, if a little bit crispy. Rubbing them around in the melted butter on the plate fixed that problem.

Anyway, just wanted to let any other ex-PAers know.

Does anyone know a place where I can get homemade pierogies around Charlotte?

Carmella's has them too but I don't think they are homemade.

Trader Joe's potstickers are great! We used to go to TJ all the time in Northern VA but I have not made it to the one here yet.

My house.

Actually, I make the Slovak kind (per my heritage) that are like tiny dumplings filled with farmer cheese or lekvar (prune butter.) I swear it's much tastier than it sounds! LOL

Other than that, I haven't seen any that can compare. But they take a lot of work, so I generally only make them once or twice a year: Christmas and/or Easter.

I wish we worked at the same company. I would try the prune butter ones even though it doesn't sound all that appetizing, to be honest.

I like 'em with sauerkraut also.

I have also made them, but find they are A LOT of work. And yes, prune butter IS much tastier then it sounds. Being 100% Polish (no jokes please, I've heard them all) I grew up eating good homemade ones. Sure do miss that!

Bless their hearts, their sanitation score is too low so I can't go there. They keep getting caught with unsafe food/equipment temps. I need to go to church while I am in PA for Thanksgiving and get one of the old ladies to make me some.
