Are there any teachers here who recently found teaching jobs in Charlotte and you're coming from another state? I live in NY and would love to relocate to a few places that I've created a list for, Charlotte being one of them. Any advice? I've already applied to CMS online, do I just play the waiting game now?
I moved from New York (not a teacher there) and now teach in CMS. You will be most successful in getting a position by dealing directly with the principals. This means doing some research on schools, areas where you want to live, etc.

I wouldn't recommend moving here to teach. There are better states in the south who still treat their teachers with respect.
Some area districts had some pretty big layoffs. The market here was already becoming over saturated, and now it will be even worse. Plus, the state hasn't approved the budget yet, so more layoffs could still happen.
That said, you could still land a job, but make sure you are informed. North Carolina has a state wide pay scale, and we have been frozen on our steps for 5 years now. Here is a link to the salary scale. Right now, it takes 15 years to make $40,000. And remember, we've been stuck on our steps for years. It could take more than 15 years to actually get there.
If you can, I would come down and drop off your resume. You will have a lot of competition and whatever can set you apart from the rest is good.
Also, DO YOUR HOMEWORK! Research schools, ask questions, etc. CMS is a very tough district to work for and the principal will make or break you.
