Any recommendations as to where to purchase a personal firearm? I already found suggestions on the permit and safety classes from here.

Hyatt Gun Shop has been around forever and is very popular among gun enthusiasts. They spent some time to fit a left handed buddy with a gun he was really comfortable with.

If you know what you want, there are a billion places on line. They will have to send it to a Federal Firearm License Holder (FFL) who will charge you a fee, $20 - $40, but the transaction is the same, same paperwork, same permit reqmnt if pistol.

Hyatt has enough inventory that you can probably find what you want, and if you do, there is no FFL fee, but buying a gun on line, opens up endless inventory, though the paperwork and checks are IDENTICAL.

Good luck.

Hyatt has a lot in stock. Also the highest prices in the area! I'd go there and find what you want and get another store like Carolina Hunter in Gastonia to order it for you.

I had read that you should not buy it online but from a local reputable source. Especially since I really don't know the ins and out of a firearm to check for stuff. I also saw a place called Fort Mill guns. And I actually do know the exact model I want. I will call around and see who has the lowest price. Thanks for the recommendations.

If you do not know the ins and outs of a gun to check for stuff...then you need to stop right there and educate yourself. You are not ready for a firearm.

If you're buying something like a Glock pistol or .50 cal, research a lot. Gun shops will inflate prices really bad, you can spend 12k on a 9k rifle, or 1.9k on a 1.2k pistol. If you just want any gun, still compare prices.

That good 'ol boy credibility doesn't equate to honesty..

I'm not a gun guy, but Hyatt Gunshop on Wilkinson is a quality place that pretty much has everything that you could imagine, and most everyone there knows their guns.

Oh believe me, we are doing the course as a family and we will all be educated on the ins and outs of it plus not to mention safety. I wanted to purchase said gun locally first for the course so we can work with it and be familiar with it. Thanks TJJT, we are starting out with a smaller gun for now. And those prices are nuts!
