Citing figures from an analysis earlier this month by WalletHub, the feature says the $76,914 average annual income in this "banking powerhouse" feels more like $82,525 when adjusted for cost of living. That makes the Queen City the best locale in the nation for stretching a solid salary.
WalletHub takes a broader view, evaluating 60 U.S. cities based on the number of job openings per capita, home-buying power with a median salary and other factors, in addition to the adjusted annual income figures. In that overall ranking, Charlotte placed at No. 18.
Professional skilled jobs are always in demand: engineers, doctors, IT, experienced machinists, etc.
This is correct. If you are in any of these fields you will have no problem. The reason Charlotte has a relatively high unemployment rating (used to be worse) is because of the vast number of people moving here without a job lined up. They think they can finally "make" it in Charlotte, in business for instance, thinking that because Charlotte is a banking city they won't have a problem. Then they find an interview and find out that there are 20-50 other people trying to get the same job as you that went to the same school as you and have the same, or more, amount of experience you have. If your question is "should I move to Charlotte to find a job", than I would say unless you can find a job before, don't do it. It happens way too often, where people move down, can't find a job, and end up moving back in with family to put them back on their feet.
As of January of this year the unemployment rate is 6.9% which isn't spectacular but isn't terrible.
Does that include the unemployed who don't file for nor receive unemployment benefits? I don't think so.
