I'm moving to Charlotte and will be working near CMC.
I like Huntersville around Birkdale and McCauley. How is the commute to and from that area to the area by CMC's main campus during rush hour?
40+ minutes of hell, imo. I guess it depends on what you're used to/what your tolerance level is. Go look at Google maps right now...over a mile of solid red heading up I-77 right now.
I wouldn't do it but my time is important to me.
I agree it would be 40 minutes of hell - unless there is an accident which would make it 1.5 hours of hell.
Have you tried driving on I-77 (or any of the side roads) during rush hour?
So why is the commute from Huntersville so hard. I've been told that the commute is reasonable if one accesses 77 from Gilead Rd., and getting from Gilead to McCauley seems reasonable by side roads.

77 narrows from 4 lanes to 3 at 485 (exit 19) and from 3 to 2 at Gilead Rd. (Exit 23). The backups during the afternoon rush hour can be miles. Not to mention the traffic getting from the hospital to 77, and slowdowns on 77 around Uptown. There are many people on 77 trying to commute north of Huntersville.
In the morning, it will be easier if you get on 77 at Gilead, but will frequently be very slow as you approach Uptown.
The side roads will be jammed.
Look at Google maps tomorrow morning and afternoon.
