And it will only help people unemployed AFTER a certain date - we won't qualify because my hubby's been out of work since the summer This really SUCKS because we've now had to pay $1200 a month for 8 months -where's our "buy out"? I feel cheated.
The stimulus bill was smoke and mirrors. So many people don't qualify because of this or that (like lovesmountains) and I don't qualify for the home purchase thing because I closed in 07. It was a sham designed to get the pet projects of our congress going.
No one knows since no one was actually allowed to read the spendulus before voting. That's bipartisanship at its finest!
That's good it will lower your payment, however, it is really step 1 of the plan to "backdoor" socialized medicine.
Good job Obama-manaics.
Y'know what...and I know that I am opening up a can of worms here...but, I CANNOT WAIT TO HAVE SOCIALIZED MEDICINE!! That way, I would not have to worry if I was out of work or on disability about paying for health care. I would not have to ration out my medications (as I do today) for fear that I will not be able to pay for them next month. I also would not have 1/2 the health problems that I have today due to my neglecting to go to the doctor because of the cost. My son experienced it in England, and it was WONDERFUL. I also had a great experience there. Now, I know that it is not all peaches-and-cream, but, not having that bill hanging over your head was the biggest relief you can imagine!!
I agree in theory with socialized medicine. But the fact of the matter is Americans are not Europeans. Europeans generally eat healthier and exercise more, even though they do smoke more, but even that is coming down. I think what will end up happening in actuality is people who exercise and are healthy will berate those who smoke or eat McDonalds all the time. After all the healthy people are footing the bill for those who aren't healthy. No one will complain (and these examples are the ones that pro-socialized medicine people love to throw out there) about sick children and crippled veterans. But why should I foot the bill for the crazy mother in california who just had 8 in-vitro children? Why should I foot the bill for the guy who drinks a six pack each night and needs a new liver.
If people don't feel the need to be financial responsible (whether it's for you house or your health) I think people don't care that much to be self sufficient and just expect the gov't to bail them out.
With Obama, racism may be on its way out, but classism will be in full force. There will be more infighting amongst citizens more than ever. The healthy being critical of the sick and the choices they've made, the rich being critical of the poor and the decisions they've made.
Ok, I don't agree with Socialism and don't like obama, but what is wrong with socialized medicine?
Is healthcare a right for everyone or just a privilege for the rich?
Sheenie, it has become a privilege for the rich. My friends in England are aghast that this country, as rich as it is, does not care for it's people. And, to flexysteve's point, why can't Americans become more like Europeans and eat healthier & walk more? I would love to do that, only a huge chunk of my paycheck goes to pay for health care! (not to mention the deductibles and the co-pays!) We are the only industrialized nation in the world that does not have socialized health care.
OK: off my soapbox now. sorry. Back to Civil Litigation.
To a certain degree, I can understand your points, flexy. But I didn't choose to be afflicted with the condition that I have had for the past 12 years. I don't like having to ration my medication, but I do it because I don't know what next month will bring. Its not fair, and I don't expect for someone else to be responsible for my health. I just wish things weren't so expensive. At this point, I can see "working to live" becoming my motto, as I work so that I can have health insurance. No private insurer would touch me - I have checked.
And for the record, I would say that biking 25 miles per month does count as exercise.
Off my soapbox now...
