Will be moving up later this year to the Huntersville/Cornelius area (probably rent in Cornelius and buy in Huntersville). We're heading up in April to finalize some things and one is to check out schools. I've looked on greatschools and see Huntersville Elementary has a good rating (same as my daughters school here in Naples, Fl). Right now she is in a great school that has heavy involvement with PTA and technology. Can anyone give me insight/info into schools in this area? Any others I should check out/consider? My daughter will be in 1st grade when we move. We'd like to possibly visit a school or two to get a feel for them.

Also interested in The Children's Community School in Davidson. Any three of those towns is ideal for us.

THANKS!

You have a better chance of being struck by lightening or winning the real lottery than getting into Children's Community School especially in first grade.

Torrence Creek and Great Oak are very good, honestly all of the elementary schools in Huntersville are good.

Congratulations, and welcome to the area!

There are some tremendous schools in the area(s) you mentioned. A factor I'd definitely consider, though, is the "golden triangle of commuting"; eg: the location IN COMMUTE TIME, NOT DISTANCE for your home, work, and the school.
Especially with elementary school age children, since younger children pass around the latest flu bugs like we traded baseball cards when I was a kid.

As far as the magnate schools go; there is a long waiting list, but in practice it's artificially long. Parents can ( and often do) put their children on the waiting list for several of the magnate schools in the area simultaneously- so as soon as they are accepted at one, their name comes off the waiting list for 2 or 3 more.

greatschools. org was a great site for info; but to be honest I haven't looked at that sight in 6 months or so. Feel free to PM me, and I can email you a small booklet of local school district boundaries and performance info that I put together last year as a reference for fellow local Real Estate Agents.

FYI- I'm also working on the same thing for folks with dogs....with is more my area of expertise. ( We have one adult, low needs child, and two childish, high needs dogs... ) ..
