Congratulations, and welcome to the area!
There are some tremendous schools in the area(s) you mentioned. A factor I'd
definitely consider, though, is the "golden triangle of commuting"; eg: the location IN COMMUTE TIME, NOT DISTANCE for your home, work, and the school.
Especially with elementary school age children, since younger children pass around the latest flu bugs like we traded baseball cards when I was a kid.
As far as the magnate schools go; there is a long waiting list, but in practice it's artificially long. Parents can ( and often do) put their children on the waiting list for several of the magnate schools in the area simultaneously- so as soon as they are accepted at one, their name comes off the waiting list for 2 or 3 more.
greatschools. org was a great site for info; but to be honest I haven't looked at that sight in 6 months or so. Feel free to PM me, and I can email you a small booklet of local school district boundaries and performance info that I put together last year as a reference for fellow local Real Estate Agents.
FYI- I'm also working on the same thing for folks with dogs....with is more my area of expertise.
( We have one adult, low needs child, and two childish, high needs dogs...
