I'm thinking about moving to Charlotte, however I'm not impressed with the shabby, cookie cutter neighborhoods I've been seeing online. Can someone recommend some older neighborhoods (homes built in the eighties) where homeowners actually live in their homes (as opposed to renters) and the commute to uptown is less than 20 minutes in rush hour. I would prefer to spend under 200k. Thanks!

You are my kind of newcomer nawdog A 20 minute commute to uptown can be had from several neighborhoods in south and southeast Charlotte. However the neighborhoods that close in will be more like homes from the 50's and 60's not the 80's - is that okay? For homes in the 70's and 80's count on a 30-35 minute commute. Which would you like to know about?

I'm interested in homes built in the 70s and 80s. It seems like developers back then were put more effort and thought into the homes having some originality as opposed to what we have today. Can you recommend some neighborhoods I can look at. I would prefer to be in South Charlotte or anywhere but the University Area. I heard some not so great things about the home appreciation in that area.

Your are making a wise decision! We have a house built in the late 80s and we had a structural engineer and a home inspector check it out b/f buying - and we were thrilled to find out it is so well constructed - and all brick, as well. This home is so well insulated - our heating and cooling bills are lower than so many other homeowners w/ similar size houses. Plus, we have 1/2 acre w/ woods and a creek and on a quiet cul-de-sac. It takes more like 30 mins to commute from our house to uptown even tho it is only about 12 miles. Just enjoy some music and it will be fine.
Starmount neighborhood? How many sq feet? Under $200 and within 20 minutes of CHarlotte in South Charlotte...that's a tough find. GL!
