Thank the LBGT community. I hope these venues sue.
This isn't on the LGBT community, this is on the lawmakers that made this law. HB2 goes way beyond LGBT and goes on an outdated mindset with over reaching and devestating effects.
Concerts
Jobs
Sports
Reputation
Tourism
All of that is affected by this, not just LGBT but this will hurt NC as a whole.

and what would they sue for? The contracts have stipulations to move events and they chose to do so. There is no law or regulation that forces a private organization such as the NCAA, ACC, etc..to hold events in certain locations. As long as they follow the contract, which obviously gives them an out, no lawsuit would even come close to being successful.
Maybe they are not returning since there was a discrimination suit placed against a hotel/restaurant for charging a surcharge for meals since waiters and waitresses lose money. They were getting stiffed by the ACC crowd. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have been cancelled due to their compassionate nature.
You are naive and do not understand real politics.
People may not support their legislator, but if he or she has been there awhile, he or she is on important committees and can steer pork to the district.
Voting on new people is like cutting one's throat since they will be "junior" and have no clout, and thus, no pork flows in.
It is totally disgusting, but that is what is going on.
Haha..."real" politics. Nice try to complicate an issue that has become ideological in nature. North Carolinians voted the current legislature and governor into office not too long ago. They CHOSE this path. Started with annexation law, finished with HB2. Look back at the record of what has changed since. This has nothing to do with legislators that have been there for 20 years, as you suggest.
The point of my post is to say you can't have it both ways.
You can't support this legislation and also get all those events. The legislation is deemed to be anti-discriminatory by the business community.
If people really opposed it, it wouldn't be in place, IMO.
Or maybe this is just ANOTHER example of the State stripping its municipalities of any rights...and going too far.
Charlotte widely does oppose it but the GOP is driven by districts beyond Mecklenburg county. If it were a popular vote it wouldn't be close! NC opposes HB2!
The shame is that rural NC slack jawed ingrates that support politicians who fight for HB2 come from from well intended but misinformed positions. They think HB2 is about preserving traditional values. They think it is protection from an overzealous "PC Culture" that is a threat to their way of life. They think this is true because that is the message that has been forced down their throat through propaganda and boogie-man tactics. They are wrong.
They won't pay for their ignorance as it doesn't matter to their pocket books if they're wrong because they won't be impacted as much as those in the city who are giving up the events and making companies pull out of the state. Charlotte and Raleigh will bear the brunt of the cost; cities that widely oppose HB2.
This was and still is a non-issue. Stupid of Charlotte to push forward an unnecessary ordinance in the first place. Worse for the state to compensate with HB2 - passed at the last minute with provisions that make us look like a far less tolerant and accepting state. Deplorable for the GOP to activate boogie man tactics to rouse fear and make this about bathrooms when it wasn't, and now what we have is a bunch of uninformed mouth breathers claiming the sky is falling.
You're right that you can't blame a business for protecting their image, but the way this bill was created is enough of a reason to know that it WAS NOT A RESULT of popular voting. There are too many important issues to spend time on in North Carolina for this one to occupy attention. It's a shame.
Because he is in the NC GA? He can't pass laws, all he can do is use his voice. You truly are lost on this one. He didn't call a special session to get this passed, he didn't remove 500k from our disaster fund to pay for the legal fees of this. That isn't on LGBT or anyone but the people in our GA and Pat.

Your opinion. Keep fighting the fight. I'm moving on.
