I'm moving to the Charlotte region in mid May and I'm looking for apartment hunting advice. So far, I have found that you can't get an apartment without a job, and you can't get a job without an apartment. I have plenty of savings to cover a place, with or without a roommate, for at least six months while I continue my freelance work and look for a day job (and I'm close to landing a transfer from my current job).

I have tried contacting people through roommates.com, roomster.com, roomiematch.com, and sublet.com, all with no responses. Are there any other good sources or options?

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Have you tried Airbnb? There are many short term possibilities out there. I have a friend who lives on the coast and works in town during the work week. He stays at an Airbnb place. This is an idea to get you here with a local address. Once you have a local job, you can get your apartment. Good luck!

Maybe not ideal, but couldn't you just pay for a 6 month (or less) lease up front with an apartment complex then?

I've looked into Airbnb, definitely a possibility.

I've offered to pay a few months in advance, but it still doesn't matter to any landlords I spoke to.

I'd focus on non-corporate apartments (i.e. individuals). I would think they would be more flexible.

Could you sign a short term lease and just pay for the whole thing? I know the monthly rates are higher the shorter you go, but without knowing where your job would be located you probably don't want to be locked into one location for too long anyway.

Try other classifieds like Charlotte observer or craigslist. And if u can drive around in person u will see rental signs as well. Many only care about cash, or month to month.

Still looking for a place. I have been looking into sublets now, but most are near the colleges and only take college kids. AirBnB could be a good source, I'll look into that, too.

Are there any real estate companies that deal with renting?
