Quick question for the forum - my kid just got into Bradford (lottery). Anyone have kids there already and would recommend? They are only giving us a week to make up our minds, and we don't know much about it.

Bradford Prep School Charlotte

Did a forum history search and there are a couple of mentions but none recently or in any detail.

His other options are Ridge Road or the IB program at JM Alexander.

Thanks!

I have a friend that sent her kids to Bradford and pulled them. They actually go to Ridge now. I have another friend that her kids have attended Bradford since it opened and they are happy. They would be at Highland Creek ES and then Ridge as the middle.

I read complaints about the administration. My son went to a charter for a year. I had to deal with the administration and we didn't go back. I think that if you don't have any issues and the teachers are great you can have a great year at any school.

A friend of mine told me just last week that the schools (Highland Creek ES and Ridge) have really gone downhill in the last few years.

Does your neighborhood have nextdoor? I would ask on there and get some feedback from different parents that are still there and parents that have left so you can make an informed decision.

Good luck!

It's a hot topic on Highland Creek Nextdoor. Most folks are happy with the younger grades, but pull by 4th grade. I'd try it. Can't you pull and go back to homeschool any time?

I think we could always go back to public, but they lose state funding when kids pull out, IIRC, which I'd feel bad about.

He's a rising 5th grader - sounds like the time when some are making the switch.

Also Ridge Road and JMA are getting reshuffled if the announced plan goes into effect.

The public schools lose funding when a child enrolls in a charter school. Do you feel bad about that?

I believe there is a cut off date to the state funding. If you re-enroll your kid back in the public school in X amount of days then the money will go to the public school.

My husband's co-worker had his son at Bradford Prep (8th grade I believe) and pulled him after 2 years.

That's actually what I meant. The public schools need all the funding they can get.
