Actually it tastes like total crap! I am sure it is safe, but it does not taste good. We have pretty much turned into a bottled water society anyway

Huge difference between filtered and tap! Although it's plenty safe, it doesn't taste all that great. My fridge filter always stays fresh.

It is usually difficult to get used to the taste of water in a new area when you move. I use a Brita filter pitcher and my refrigerator has filtered water and we use that. I will admit the longer I am here. the more the water tastes "normal" to me. I know it is safe so I have no complaints.

I admit, I miss the Charlotte water. The water here in Denver, CO & the surrounding suburbs I can't get used to. Maybe its too clean for my tastes .

Been here 9 months and the water gets better with time. I still rely on bottle water, but every now and than I venture and drink plain tap water. I like NYC water, Charlotte water to me is like Long Island water, terrible, but the more you drink it the better it tastes. I guess when you thirsty enough, anything taste good.

I'm curious to know where in the country the water is NOT safe to drink from the tap?

I think Charlotte water is decent. But I use a filter anyway. Either you use a water filter, or you are one.
