I have a special event on Thursday evening uptown....Afterwards my wife and I would like to have a nice dinner ( I want a steak...she wants salmon) Anyhow, since it's my evening we will be hitting a steakhouse....Which would you choose....Capital Grille??.......Mortons Steakhouse??.......or Ruths Chris?? The wife wants to try Capital, however I've heard good things about Mortons...any opinions???
Personally I prefer Morton's, but all you mentioned are great. You could also try Sullivan's: Sullivan's Charlotte (http://www.sullivansteakhouse.com/charlotte/ - broken link)
IMHO Mortons is too stuffy (I don't always want to dress in a suit to eat a huge steak) and we usually end up at Ruth's Chris or The Palm (I am a sucker for their crabcakes).
The local Sullivan's and McIntosh's are great to. Local color all the way, and great food.
Variety is the spice of life and we hop around month to month.
We've recently eaten at Morton's and Capital Grille uptown. I hadn't been to either place before, although I'm a big fan of Ruth's Chris. My husband and I agreed that the steak was perhaps a tad better at Morton's, but the service was a tad better at Capital Grille. Neither of us had seafood, so I can't speak to that. Although honestly, both of these places were so good that the differences were fairly negligible.
Capital Grille had a mac and cheese appetizer that was insanely, ridiculously good!
By the way, I slightly prefer the taste of a Ruth's Chris steak (fillet) over both Morton's and Capital Grille -- it must be the butter they cook it with!
IMHO I don't think Ruth Chris' steaks are good at all. They typically don't season their meat but rather cook it in a bland butter. Everything else their is good. For my money if you're uptown I'd choose the Capital Grille, the lobster Mac and cheese side dish is the closest to heaven that I have experienced.
Mullman: I hear you about Mortons being "Stuffy", the last time I went to the Mortons in Southpark, there was more than one person with jeans on which surprised me.
