My fiance has been looking on Careerbuilder.com and Monster.com for a job in an Administrative Role and has been having a hard time finding an actual company instead of a temp agency. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to look?

Also, try looking on Indeed (dot) com. You can set up an e-mail to look for job openings that might be a good fit, and Indeed will pull listings from a variety of sources. Your fiance will get one e-mail based on her search criteria, and she can do research from there.

City/County jobs: Human Resources (http://www.charmeck.org/Departments/Human+Resources+City/Home.htm - broken link) (updated weekly with new postings, usually one or two admin-type jobs listed).

Has he signed up w/ any Temp agencies? This is often a great way to get into the door - and land a permanent job here.

Apply directly to the company website in which he wants employment.

You will find that the term "temp" agency doesn't mean what it used to. Many companies are now using "temp" agencies (they call themselves "Recruitment" Agencies now) to find employees. A fair number of jobs that you might find on the companies website will also be under recruitment by one or more agencies. Personally, I was contacted by a "temp" agency for a job that I had found on CareerBuilder and interviewed directly with the company.

As was recommended by Ani, using recruitment agencies is a good way to get your foot in the door, and you'll find out about some jobs that aren't posted on Monster and CareerBuilder. In fact, if you want to PM me, the agency I'm working with had an Executive Admin position for a major employer here they were trying to fill. I don't know if they've filled it yet - it was still open as of last week though.

I have lived in Charlotte for 8 years and run my own staffing firm (financial staffing). A couple of suggestions...

Networking is the best way to find a job. Many of the larger churches in town host "job hunting clubs" that are led by HR leaders representing a cross-section of employers in the Charlotte region. Definitely worth checking into these. The Charlotte Business Journal is published weekly and has a CALENDAR section in every issue that includes listings and contact for some of the local area job clubs.

Charlotte is a town big on civic involvement and support of non-profits. It pays to get involved in Rotary, Kiwanis and other such groups. Involvement goes a long way in Charlotte to getting networked with the right folks.
