What is the best thing (new businesses, tourism sites, events) that has happened in Charlotte in the last two years? What things are coming in the next two years?

Coming is the NASCAR Hall of Fame and the opening of the first 10 miles of light rail from south Charlotte to uptown. Recent happenings have been the first season of the NBA Bobcats in the new arena and the new movie theater in Ballantyne that serves alcohol and sushi while playing indie films and artsy films that don't make it in wide release. Also, the opening of the National Whitewater Rafting Center where Olympic training and events will be held. I'm sure there are many other things, these are just off the top of my head

There are 18 Condo towers either announced or coming out of the ground downtown. Other downtown projects are, Ritz-Carlton, B of A office tower, Wachovia tower, Mint Museum of Art, Bechtler Museum of Modern Art. A
3rd Ward park surrounded by a big Novarre development (5 buildings). A very innovative Lowes project on S. Blvd. The site of the old Coliseum will become 2500+ condos, single-family, & apts. retail, office, and hotel.

I think the Nat'l Whitewater Rafting Center is going to be huge, it opened last fall. This will be the first summer of full operation.

Although older than 2 years, Johnson & Wales was a huge coup for Charlotte.
