I feel like that when I learn about something new, but don't worry it only lasts a couple of hours.

I have never had a client ask me to research the company to host their website b/f so this is all new to me. I feel kinda dumb b/c I thought I was a bit more savvy than I am, I guess.

I believe caro.net has servers physically located in the Charlotte area. I have no personal experience with them but a friend of mine hosts his small business website with them and seems happy enough.

Out of curiosity, how much does hosting cost monthly/annually? And why does it matter where the "server" is located if the people in town do the work that needs to be done to the site?

It could be 3-20 per month...

Ani stated she wants to support the local community. She's tired of paying for things that were made in China.

Well, the server location does matter somewhat since the signal has to physically travel from your computer to the server. So a server located here in town should theoretically give a faster response time ("ping") than one located in Seattle (barely noticeable, but still slower...critical if you're hosting intensive programs like games)...and on that same note, a server located outside the country will typically be noticeably slower than a domestic one.

But on Ani's reason of hosting it here...servers are physical infrastructure assets of a company...very expensive to run and to connect to the outside world. So by finding someone in town, you're not only keeping the work local, but you're investing in some hard tangible "stuff" too.
