I have no complaints with the local price of beer in the metro area. But, what is it with the price of mixed drinks. I have not been able to find a vodka and cranberry for less than $5.50. And, seems like uptown bars are the only places that have descent reduced drink prices. Should I start hiding a flask or switch exclusively to beer or wine. I am not a tight person, I just hate spending $40 just to get my own good buzz going. I am basing my experience mostly on Cornelius. Would I be able to get by with pending $20. if I start going to trashier places?
Unless it is a "special" night....5.50+ seems to be the going rate around time. Some plces will have the 3$ well drinks, etc. I try to plan on excursions around the specials. Or stick to beer. I like vodka tonics...but they get pricey. So far I have noticed Howl at the Moon to be the most expensive of the places I've gone. I have to say though I once paid 9$ for a LI at Dixie's. I am used to them being more expenisve, but like 7...not 9. I learned my lesson about LI's there.
Drink prices are high here, IMHO. Like you - beer is fine - but if you want a cocktail - unless there is a special going - be ready to run up a tab, LOL. I have complained about this since moving back here six years ago.
I try to be accepting of the drink prices because they are higher in many other parts of the country. I usually fail at it though.
Truthfully. The admission price gets me a lot of the time. 7 dollars, really? whyyy? you dont make enough on the liquer and over-priced beer? I try to skip places with cover all together unless its a special occasion or a visitor is in town. Such as this weekend. I've been saving up :-)

Perhaps see if they are offering any mixed drink specials?
You also could always have a few drinks at home before going out.
