I was just curious....I have been renting for about 7 years and have never had to pay a water bill until I moved to Charlotte. I thought most apartment communities covered the cost of water (that is until I moved to Charlotte). Why is this the norm here?

Thanks!
I had to pay a water bill when I rented an apartment back in 2000 at Post Gateway Apartments Uptown. Funny thing is that my water bill went to Atlanta, GA (I think that is where Post Apartments are headquartered).
I think more and more apartments are passing that extra bill on to the renter.
I have to pay the water bill too. However, this is the first apartment I've rented that has the washer/dryer in the unit, so I'm sure that's partially the reason.
I pay water(for sewage and TRASH, too). Never paid for those in Michigan! I find it ridiculous that I have to pay for garbage when I have to walk across the complex to throw it away. 6 buildings over.... My old complex had a dumpster at every building, two max. Yes, they're tacky, but my arms feel like they're going to fall off after 3 floors and 6 buildings!!!

I rented with a washer and dryer and did not pay water. They typically just charge a few extra dollars a month to make up for it. Not a big deal, really.
Some people will not conserve water when they do not see the cost in a monthly or bimonthly bill, and those that do conserve end up paying for those who refuse.
