You're killing me Sharks! NO ONE can predict what will be the cheapest place to live in 8 to 10 years honey. What I guess you can count on is that rural areas not within 50 miles of a city will probably remain cheaper - unless you are talking about mountain areas with spectacular views.

We could all help you better if you could explain to us what you are trying to accomplish, instead of asking such general questions okay?

So you want to know the lowest priced places now that might appreciate well over time?

Personally, that sounds like a good deal to me

But tell me, why Lincolnton? I mean, there are probably lots of areas you could go to and find land like that in that range. How do you envision yourself living in 10 years? Will you be retired, or will you need to find a job? And why NC? Why not Virginia, South Carolina or Tennessee?

Well, you could certainly do a lot worse than Lincolnton. I can't really think of a bad thing to tell you about it. And since you won't need a full time job you should have some options for employment in the area, just nothing you'll get rich doing You should plan a trip down to see this lot for yourself. Since you know it perks I'd say $10,000 is a good deal for a place to later build on. Just be sure you can tie into the water and utilities too without a big outlay of money.

Default are there mountains homes within 30 miles of Charlotte?

are there mountains homes within 30 miles of Charlotte? I would love to own a home within a budget of $110,000 to $180,000 somewhere secluded but close enough for a 30 minute drive into Charlotte. Are there homes within the mountains around this price range?

The first mountain area you are likely to encounter outside of Charlotte is Kings Mountain/ Shelby area. You are in the foothills of the Smokies. Small nice towns that are 35-45 minutes from Charlotte. These towns are in Cleveland County if you want to do a little looking!

Hey thank you so much for your help. Even seeing the mountains would be nice but it would definately have to be at least somewhat close to Charlotte since that is where my job would be. Are there any advantages to living over the border to SC or is it a win some/lose some type thing. My main goal is to be able to afford a house out in the boonies and rural area so is SC housing just as good as NC? Thanks for all the info everyone. This is really making a difference for us!
