What is the best seafood restaurant in and around Charlotte. No chain please. I know about the Oceannaire. Friend from Baltimore is the manager. Anything else.

Thanks.

We are originally from Baltimore too, been here for 15 years. Unfortunately there isn't anything comparable to MD style seafood. We make our own at home. It's hard to find crabmeat too. The only place I've found fresh crabmeat is at the beach. If anyone does know of a place that actually serves real MD style seafood, I'd like to know too.

That's funny about fresh seafood. Most of our crabmeat comes from NC OMG! Well I know the Oceannarie is a good place to go. It's expensive, but you get what you pay for.

It's early yet. May some other posters have suggestions. Don't care if it is a hole in the wall as long as the food is good

Default It's Upstream

My favorite is Upstream in Phillips Place, which rates a 26 in Zagat. Try and skip lunch the day you eat there in order to have room for the "Seafood Tower" appetizer ... you get a selection of their best appetizers, which are mussels, calamari, and crabcakes.

If you're indecisive, their sake marinated chilean sea bass with lobster potstickers is a good default, I'd also suggest the mushroom crusted Mahi (I got this solely for the side of duck risotto and was NOT disappointed!). Mrs. ua835 was also a big fan of the trout.

IMHO skip the shellfish Toban-yaki, but don't forget to check out what they're offering that day for the bento box entree.

Enjoy!

For good ol' fried fish camp fare, Captain Steve's is the best we've found here. We always go to the Fort Mill/Carowinds location.

I'm dying to get out to the Beantown Tavern in Matthews to try their whole-belly fried clams.

Default MD Crabs

I will miss good ol MD seafood. What about crabs in charlotte? I am talking whole crabs that you spend most of your time picking out the meat. I live on the eastern shore of md near OC and when crab season come in watch out. On the eastern shore crabs are a delicacy that is a summer tradition. YUM

I hate to disappoint you but you will not find steamed or boiled crabs here unfortunately. The best you will do is to find Alaskan king crab legs on some menus, which is not the same to me at all Better plan on heading back to Maryland, or at least Virginia beach, during the season to get your fix!
