So, my husband's company (which is based in Boston) switched health insurance companies again for the umpteenth time. We now have Cigna PPO and I am having trouble finding docs in this area that are in-network. A search for gynecologists in a 75 mile radius of Cabarrus County on the Cigna site brought up only two doctors, one on 4th St. and one in Monroe.

Is Cigna not common around here? Or is there just a shortage of doctors? Also, for one of the doctors listed when I called they actually have a few docs at the clinic that all accept Cigna, is it possible that more exist but aren't showing up at other offices?

This isn't a huge deal for now, but *if* we decide to have children I'm having visions of looong drive on 85 while in labor!

We have CIGNA PPO, and I found tons of in-network providers. I ran a search for you (this is based on a South Charlotte zip code with a 26 mile radius). Here you go!
CIGNA.com - Provider Directory

Edit - I just saw you are in Cabarrus - you might have to drive into Charlotte - or, I'm sure some of these drs have offices in Concord or Cabarrus. I don't know a good zip code for you to search (I'm not too familiar with Cabarrus), but hopefully this list will provide you with some options. The University area wouldn't be too far for you. Here's a search I ran on Concord.

Ugh, okay, so I searched again and realized that my husband was incorrect, we do not have Cigna PPO, we have Cigna Open Access. I called Cigna and, according to them, Open Access is designed to be more flexible than a PPO.

Apparently, the "flexible" Open Access plan translates to I have two doctors to choose from instead of 50 to choose from. Great. It seems that in the area we used to live in quite a few docs participated in the Open Access, but here not so much.
