Merts Heart and Soul. Cheap southern cookin' and right around the corner from the arena. Place has been around 10+ years (which is saying alot uptown).

Mert's Heart and Soul Restaurant Charlotte NC Merts Official Site

For more generic food...Wild Wing Cafe in the Epicenter is inexpensive. Jason's Deli is very cheap.

Brixx has good "gormet style" pizza and it is cheap.

I haven't been to Nix Burger and Brew on 5th but I heard it is good.

Those places are all kid friendly and low priced for a family outing.

Now, for the important stuff. Do they sell beer? Is it gonna be cold in there? Do they sell beer? Cool Beans!!!!
Yes they sell beer - but while the ticket prices are minor league, the concession prices are not. We easily drop at least 2 times the cost of our tickets on frosty beverages during the games (hence the Saturday tailgates on 6th street before those games!).

Also, there is usually an after-party for after most games where team members come as well - frequently at Brixx, where they will do 2-for-1 pizzas with your ticket stub; and when they do these at other places, there is usually a similar deal for fans.

Oh yeah - since I know a few people in Charlotte like that sport where people drive to the left for a few few hours at a time - Another note about Saturday's game (from the Checkers newsletter):

"The Charlotte Checkers are proud to announce the 6th Annual Race Night presented by AutoTrader.com benefiting Hendrick Marrow Program, B.R.A.K.E.S, Speedway Children’s Charities and Victory Junction Gang Camp slated for January 24th, 2009. The Charlotte Checkers will be hosting a pre-game autograph session for race fans followed by an action packed game against the South Carolina Stingrays with a ceremonial puck drop at 7:00 PM.

The Checkers will don specialty Race Night jerseys presented by AutoTrader.com that will be auctioned off immediately following the game to benefit the race night charities. Checkers players have been paired with your favorite drivers for a one-time specialty jersey event. Checkers players’ numbers have been altered to match that of your favorite drivers and both athletes will autograph these unique jerseys. "

Well thanks, that's good to know. I'm guessing we'll eat before the game cuz we'll have the kids with us. I shouldn't have a hard time dropping two times my ticket. I paid 75 cents. I'm used to $7 beers and can only have one or two since the little ones will be there.

Good Morning all...had an idea (that's scary in itself) that we can meet after the 1st period at the entrance to Section 114, which I believe is center ice.

That sounds good to me. Is "period" like a quarter? Are there 4 periods to a game or two? Hush Brian!!! I've never been to a dang hockey game. It was a night out for 7 bucks. Anyway, I'll look for you all at the entrance to 114.

Oh boy... you might want to consider staying home, getting into a Snuggie and watching reruns.

It's three 20 minute periods.

I'll probably be either at or close to the plexiglass taking pictures.
