Go with cable rather than DSL. Much better technology.

I have Bellsouth DSL and had cable before. I notice no difference at all... but I'm not a techie. I did it because I didn't want my phone, TV and internet all on cable because when the cable goes out...boom, you have nothing.

doesnt matter, you can still get cable internet. you dont have to use them for tv. go with cable.

but, in case you dont, you can go to bellsouths website and they should tell you if you can get it.

I refuse to have cable for anything. I had the Time Warner cable internet here in Houston and it was down more that it was up.

Time Warner is your best option in Charlotte. Service here is pretty good too. DSL, for those of us working on our computers everyday, doesn't even come close.

I recommend bellsouth over roadrunner (time warner). I have had both and find the cable hardware to be problematic (I also had voip running through it). Whenever I changed things up on my network I would have to pull the battery on the RR modem and do a full reset.. apparently it maps to a single mac address.

If you get bellsouth's fastest plan it is faster than cable, both have 6mb down but bellsouth gives you 512 up vs 384. Helps when connecting to corporate networks. But that said, its a marginal difference.

The only reason I would consider time warner would be if you wanted to bundle the voip service but even than I would say go with vonage for that (its like half the price and the same service). Bellsouth is partnered with directv and cingular so you can get bundled service.

However, if you want digital cable than time warner may give you the better price point.

I have had both. Both are pretty fast. The big difference with me was BS DSL was easier to trouble shoot and the tech support was better than TW. There are great pricing plans for DSL compared to TW.

what are some prices that you guys pay? I only want internet and tv I dont need a land line phone. I'm hoping to keep it under 100 a month but just wanted to see if you guys had some specifics on what you pay for each or packaged together or whatever. I'll be in the university area in may.
