My family will be coming down in two weeks to look at houses in the Waxhaw area. Can anyone recommend a nice hotel in the area.

You'll most likely want to stay in south Charlotte - Waxhaw doesn't have anything like that there. Try the Stay Bridge Suites in Ballantyne - many people seem to really like it there

Ballentyne would be a great place to stay. Hotel, lots of places to eat, movie theater and Waxhaw is just down the road.

+1 on the Ballantyne Resort recommendation. It can be a little pricey, but I just checked for a random weekend in April, for instance, rates were $199/night, so not bad. If you get a special ... even better. It looks like Ballantyne is a member of Starwood hotels.

If you're looking for a little more affordable, but just as conveniently located - the Courtyard by Marriott is across the street from Ballantyne. You can't compare the quality, but its a Marriott property - so its at least clean and decently accomodated. I stayed there while I was looking for homes and had no complaints. For a same random weekend in April, its rates were $109/night.

Good luck.

There's also a Marriot Residence Inn and Rea Road and 485, I think it would be the closest hotel to Waxhaw.

Residence Inn Charlotte Piper Glen: Spacious suites and amenities for longer stays

Also the brand new SpringHill Suites by Marriot is in Ballantyne off JohnstonRd (521). Great location esp for proximity to Waxhaw. Is it open yet though? & if so, are they still doing construction b/c that kind of noise would make me nuts.
