Well, technically DS is the one looking. He's doing some odd jobs this summer and has 2 calls just this week for lawn mowing (quickly approaching driving age, he seems suddenly motivated to earn some $$, ). Problem is we have more than an acre and only a riding mower, he needs a push mower. Second problem is that he doesn't have a lot to invest up front. His plan is to buy an inexpensive used mower, learn a little about how to repair and maintain it while saving up for something better as business improves.
Is there anywhere he could find a used mower? He's checked Craigslist with no luck so far and really needs one by this weekend. Do second hand stores like Salvation Army, Good Will or Habitat for Humanity have mowers? We're in Union County, anyone know of some little shop or place that repairs and sells mowers (cheap)?
don't know what his budget is, but the Sears in Eastland Mall is closing and is now having their closing sales..We were there last week and they had some good discounts on the mowers..
The only place I know of but would not neccessarly recomend is Park Seneca Lawn Mowers on Park Rd. in South Charlotte. (Park Seneca Lawnmower Sales and Service)
They tend to screw people so just make sure you have done all your homework before you buy something from them and make sure you are really getting a good deal.
I don't know how much of a bargain he needs, but I bought a refurb from Lowes hardware - I'd guess that it was 25%-off the reg. price and the same warranty applied. Three lawn cuts and he'll have it paid for.
Go around to yard sales, or flea markets and pick up one cheap that way. Or, check out the neighbors and see if he can borrow one for a few days, splitting the profits with them, as he pays for the gas and upkeep and they get half the profits...(for wear and tear, but make SURE he washes the bottom out good, when he brings it back, so that the lawn mower doesnt rust and hit the bottom with WD-40 after he runs the mower for a few minutes to dry it out and oils it up for the next time...(makes clean up easier for the next time too).
There's a repair shop for small engines on W Sugar Creek Rd, near the intersection with Mallard Creek Rd in the Derita neighborhood. I recall seeing used mowers there. Probably a good place to learn some maintenance/repair tips. Another possibility is pawn shops?

Yeah - My neighbor uses this place for his annual blade sharpening needs.
I bought my lawnmower used from Sears 12 years ago. It had been purchased new and used once by someone before they returned it. They couldn't obviously resell it as new, so I got a pretty good deal.
I saw referbished one's at Home Depot also, the HD at Ballantyne Commons & Providence. There is also a Sears outlet store by Kohl's right off of South Blvd just past Carolina Place.
