Hi everyone!

My family and I will be relocating to NC in June. I'm a teacher and will be working in the South Charlotte area. We're looking to move to either Union County (Indian Trail) or Gastonia. I have a daughter in Middle School and a 3 year old. Any suggestions?
We will be renting the first few months and then buying a house.
How are the taxes, schools, etc.? I have been researching but would like some "native" input.
Thanks

Belmont is much nicer than Gastonia, and the schools are better too. Plus it is closer to Charlotte. Not sure about the taxes since we rent right now, but I have been told they are not too bad. Good luck with your move!

No comparison. Union is where you want to be.

Due to you working in S. Charlotte, I'd say Union Co.

Without being overly insulting to the fine folks of Gaston, lets just say better overall quality of life. Im sure your simplest of researches will provide the distinct differences

I'm not familiar with Gaston County but Union County is a great place to live and send your children to school. You can visit my website (found under my profile) and do a Property Search to see what homes go for here just incase you decide to buy. If you have specific questions about the area feel free to pm me. Good luck.

I was raised in Gastonia and my parents still live there, so I'm a native and actually know the area. They big negative are the schools. There's one zone I'd actually recommend, SE Gastonia. The schools there are excellent. Outside of that, it's a really nice town. If you have a chance, take a few hours and see for yourself. I can give you a nice route to see the majority of the city. It's nicely laid out, it's got one of the best city road systems in the area, Crowders Mnt. is on the west side of town, one of the nicest public libraries in the area, one of the top nature museums/planetariums in the SE, lots of shopping (a regional mall), restaurants, not experienceing out-of-control growth, safe, can get a lot of home for the money, and one of the easiest commutes into Charlotte and the airport.

One poster suggested Blemont as an alternative. We lived there in the 90's and loved it. Beautiful town. Great Schools. It's one of the hidden gems of the Charlotte area.

PM me if you want anymore info. Good luck!
